Needle felting – What in the world is all that wool?

So, what exactly is needle felting? Needle felting is a craft that involves sticking special needles into wool to shape it into everything from cute little animals to artistic masterpieces. Yes, you heard that right. You can actually make a mini version of Fluffy from Harry Potter – and without breaking a single magical rule, at least as long as you don’t sell the masterpiece.

Felting as therapy

Let's be honest, we live in a world full of stress. Some meditate, others run, but here at Ullnåla we have found a slightly more woolly way to peace of mind. There is something meditative about sitting there, poking at the wool (and not your fingers), and watching how a little creature slowly but surely takes shape.

Tips for Beginners – Don't Stab Yourself!

If you are new to needle felting, my best tip is: Try to avoid pricking yourself, look at your work and insert the needle straight in and straight out so the needle doesn't break. Don't give up,  We are here to guide you, step by step, through the entire process – from choosing the right wool to mastering the small details that make your creations truly unique.

So what can you expect from this blog? Everything from useful tips and tricks, to step-by-step guides and inspirational posts. We will also show a little behind the scenes from the Ullnåla team. Not to mention some pretty funny stories about our first attempts at felting. Let's just say that not all of our creations turned out as cute as we had hoped… I am no master at needle felting, many are much better than me, but I have picked up a few tricks along the way and am happy to share. I want more people to discover this amazing hobby and see all the possibilities that exist. 

When it comes to needle felting, there is no one-size-fits-all. I'll show you how I do it, but I encourage you to try, fail, and find your own way. Whether it turns out perfect or a little weird, the most important thing is that you enjoy yourself and have fun along the way.
